Mitch lives largely around the east and south-east of the Australian mainland. The range is mostly along the coastal and adjacent areas, but does extend quite large distances inland in some areas.

Mitch and his friends usually feed by pouncing from low perches onto prey on the ground, but sometimes can be been seen foraging with Superb Lyrebirds, feeding on prey uncovered by the lyrebird’s scratching.
